“The Second Amendment in California: Elections, Courts and the Capitol”

Dr. Burt Fulsom

The Conservative Forum of Silicon Valley proudly welcomes Mr. Sam Paredes as the guest speaker for the August, 2014 monthly meeting.

Sam Paredes has been working with Gun Owners of California for over 34 years and has been Executive Director for the past 14 years. GOC is a non-profit lobbying organization formed to protect and preserve our Second Amendment rights in California.  Sam is also Director of GOC Campaign Committee which is dedicated to defeating anti-gun politicians and replacing them with solid pro-gun leaders.

Paredes has been interviewed by Fox News, ABC World News Reports, and dozens upon dozens of radio and TV stations, and newspapers throughout California as an expert on gun laws in the Golden State.  He has testified in hundreds of legislative committee hearings, and has also lobbied the CA Fish and Game Commission and the Department of Fish and Game, as well as the CA Department of Justice. As an expert in Confrontational Politics and Tea Party Talk (the art of effective communications) he has given over 130 workshops and presentations to Gun Clubs, Tea Party groups and other conservative organizations in the Western U.S. and throughout California. He served two Governors as an appointee to the California Trade and Commerce Agency and was the co-owner of a rifle manufacturing company based in El Dorado County.

Born in Los Angeles to immigrant parents in 1956, Sam is the second of three children.  He attended Pepperdine University on scholarship and graduated in 1978 with a degree in political science and studied at the Foundation for Economic Education in New York. Married to Laurie for 36 years, they have two daughters, a son and two grandsons. Sam and Laurie have resided in Shingle Springs, El Dorado County for the past 11 years.

Sam is an avid outdoorsman and enjoys shooting of all types, hunting, fishing, golf, and travel with his family. He is also a proud volunteer Firefighter/First Responder with the Latrobe Fire Protection District. He is an NRA and CRPA Life member and a Charter member of the Granite Bay Safari Club. He serves as a worship leader in his church, and directs an a cappella singing group in the gold country foothills.
