Report By Richard Geno
The San Jose Tea Party held on Sunday, July 5th was a wonderful success story. Over 1,000 conservative protesters enthusiastically waved signs for three hours on the busiest intersection in Santa Clara County. It was great to see more than 1,000 people supporting limited government, fiscal responsibility and the free markets.
Of those gathered, 80-90% of the gathering were protesting for the first time in their lives. It was a wonderful afternoon. We received thousands of "thumbs up" and positive horn honks over the 2-hour period. With 86% of Americans satisfied with their medical care, we must find a way to reduce costs and cover those who need it without government intervention and rationed health care.
Perhaps most amazingly of all, we received excellent coverage in both the San Jose Mercury the day after, and a pre-Tea Party article in the Chronicle just a couple of days before.
With over 1,000 protesters, we had the opportunity to greet passers-by who gave us literally thousands of "thumbs-up" gestures and honks of approval. While we had about half as many people as at the April 15th Tea Party, this one was substantially more effective - we reached tens of thousands of people.
The most rewarding thing was to see us outnumber the pro-nationalizing and rationing of health care group by 10-1. This may have been a first in their lifetimes, and they were truly dumbfounded. They had better get used to it because there is a lot more still to come. The Tea Party Patriots have just begun to fight.
