Reviving the Constitution in an Age of Arrogance and Apathy
Report by Betty Sakai
David J. Bobb has a Ph.D. in political science. He is the Director of Kirby Center and a lecturer in politics at Hillsdale College. From 2001 to 2010 Dr. Bobb was the founding Director of Hillsdale’s Hoagland Center for Teacher Excellence.
On April 2th, Dr. Bobb spoke to a standing room only crowd of over 300 people in an event jointly hosted by Hillsdale College and the Forum. Speaking on the enduring principals of the Constitution, Dr. Bobb exampled George Washington’s humility and insistence that the community must be involved in upholding civil society. One positive example of an institution making a difference today, he noted, are the charter schools. He called on Conservatives to not message, not to simply outreach but get involved directly with other people, the way Progressives so ably do, to help others find ways to get off welfare and to find a reason to understand politics and the Constitution.
