September 2011

Guest Speaker:  Dr. John Eastman

Dr. Eastman said non-enforcement of the immigration laws is equivalent to "thumbing  our nose" at the Constitution.

Dr. John Eastman discussed the Constitution with The Conservative Forum attendees in September; and he demonstrated the various ways that the Obama administration is violating the Constitution. Dr. Eastman brought in four distinct areas where the Constitution is being violated; namely, illegal immigration, ObamaCare, Libya and Retroactive Pensions.

The non-enforcement of the immigration laws is equivalent to "thumbing our nose" at the Constitution. Through sanctuary cities, businesses who hire illegals with impunity and social benefits being offered, illegal immigration is not only ignored, but it is also being condoned. We do not need immigration reform so much as we need to enforce existing immigration laws.

Dr. Eastman indicated that he felt confident that ObamaCare will be ruled unconstitutional by the Supreme Court. If ObamaCare were to stand, the federal government could literally force us to buy anything. James Madison made sure that the Constitution said that the federal government could not do anything unless the Constitution specifically says it can.

He encouraged us to watch Reason TV, and watch a 10-minute documentary on the commerce clause. It is entitled "Wheat, Weed and ObamaCare  "http://reason.tv/video/show/wheat-weed-and-obamacare-how-t  He shared the 16 simple words of the Commerce Clause as follows: "To regulate commerce with foreign nations, and among the several states, and with Indian Tribes."

Dr. Eastman said that President Obama entered the Libyan conflict with total international disregard. Instead of consulting Congress, he communicated with the United Nations about our involvement. While Dr. Eastman felt that a case could have been made for a vital United States interest in assisting in Libya, the president did not make the case for America. Instead, he was pushed into it by the UN.

The most significant fiscal challenge facing America is the unfunded and retroactive nature of pension plans offered to government employees. We now have government employees functioning in their own self-interest rather than for the people. As a matter of fact, they are voting and acting in direct opposition to the taxpayers to whom they are supposed to serve.

Dr. Eastman was an extremely enthusiastic, knowledgeable and articulate presenter who received a long standing ovation at the end of his talk
