Conservative Forum of Silicon Valley Essay Contest

Announcement - 1 November 2011

General Details

A) Prizes offered:

    1. Two $1,000 scholarship awards to be spent at an accredited educational institution (as defined by the IRS)
    2. A number of certificates of accomplishment to be awarded at the discretion of the Conservative Forum.

B) Eligibility: Legal residents of California who are attending high school in Santa Clara County (including homeschoolers) are eligible to submit an essay. Scholarship prizes will be awarded to the authors of selected essays and will be sent directly to an educational institution in support of the tuition payments of the author. Neither essay judges nor their children or grandchildren are eligible. Essay judges will be appointed by the Conservative Forum.

C) Topic of essay: A principle underlying the US Constitution that made this country great

D) Length of essay: Less than 1000 words (strict limit)

E) Submit to: scholarship@theconservativeforum.com

F) Essays must be received by 29 February 2012

G) Essays should be submitted by email as a file attachment in which the author is not identified. Author identification, residence address, and high school should be contained in the email.

H) Essays will be judged by how well the author accomplishes the following objectives:

    1. The essay expresses clearly and convincingly at least one Constitutional principle of government.
    2. The essay shows how the principle has produced economic or geopolitical outcomes.
    3. The essay discusses how the principle (as expressed in the Constitution) has been interpreted within the last 100 years in ways that either sustain or compromise its purpose.

I) All submissions become the property of the Conservative Forum and may be published or used in any way by the Conservative Forum.

J) The Conservative Forum reserves the right to make no awards in case no submissions meet our criteria.

K) All decisions by the Conservative Forum and its appointed judges are final.
