Community Activism

Home : Community Activism

Members of The Conservative Forum are encouraged to get involved and make a difference in the community.   Some of our current action groups include:

American Constitution Discussion Group meeting

The Conservative Forum sponsors discussion group meetings separate from our regular monthly meetings for interested members. For dates, times and location click here.

Campus Liberty Movement

www.campuslibertymovement.com

Our Campus Liberty Movement Program (CLM) assists students on college and high school campuses to organize an independent, non-partisan conservative organization. In addition to helping establish a place where one can fortify his or her conservative thoughts, we seek to obtain quality, balanced and objective teaching that encourages diversity of thought on the respective campuses.

Discussion Boards

Conservative Guests ask questions of various monthly speakers

The goal of the Discussion Board committee is to develop a format for debating issues.  Current techniques fail in a multitude of ways.  Formal debates depend on the speaking ability of the participants and favor those capable of thinking on their feet, whether the thoughts are logical or not.  The Fox News format usually ends up with a lot of yelling, but little information is uncovered and communicated.  Group meetings end up with a number of off-hand comments with little basis in facts or research.  Logic is scarce.

Our goal will be to develop techniques to overcome these limitations so that the participants come away with more knowledge and understanding, perhaps changing their mind in the process.   Some ideas to try are combinations of face-to-face discussions among small groups together with written email discussions.   Participants may be asked to research certain aspects of an issue and report back to the group.  In the beginning, the groups will be composed of conservatives who may have different views on a subject; but later, the goal is to incorporate liberals as well.  The ultimate goal is a better understanding of issues by people of all political persuasions.

Writers Group

Chair: Keith DeFilippis - Emai: WritersGroup@theconservativeforum.com

The best way to combat the liberal media is to get letters to the editor printed in the local media.  Our Writers Group, lead by Keith De Filippis, has been very successful in getting conservative opinions in local newspapers.  If you would like to get involved with the Writers Group, contact Keith De Filippis at the above email address.
