SPEAKER SERIES

January 2008

Steve Wampler

Steve Wampler on the situation in Iraq and about 2008 Presidential Campaign

Our guest speaker was Steve Wampler, who was making his third appearance before The Conservative Forum.  Steve previously spoke in November, 2005 and May, 2006.

Steve is very thorough with his documentation of his talks.  He spoke about the situation in Iraq and also made comments about the presidential campaign for 2008. He provided many statistics and antecdotal evidence that the surge in Iraq led by General David Petraeus is extremely effective and that the United States is making major progress in Iraq - both militarily and politically.

As far as handicapping the race for president in 2008, he indicated it was clearly a two-person race on the Democrat side and a totally open race on the Republican Front, with any of five candidates having a chance for the nomination.  While there is a difference in personalities and style, he pointed out that it did not matter policy-wise which Democrat candidate gets the nomination.  He indicated that the Republicans were very fractionalized at this point in time.  There is one faction, or another in the Republican Party that finds all five of the leading candidates unsatisfactory.  Steve pointed out that the only think that might unite the Republicans is the Democrat nominee.
