SPEAKER SERIES

October 2005

Assemblyman Ray Haynes
California State Legislature

Guest Speaker
Assemblyman Ray Haynes , California State Legislature

Assemblyman Ray Haynes was an outstanding speaker. He endorsed the organization Values Advocacy Council, which is pushing for a Constitutional amendment to appear on the ballot in November, 2006 to once again establish and re-establish the concept that the only union recognized in the state of California is between a man and a woman. Following Jerry Sorensen's presentation on Proposition 75, Assemblyman Haynes also indicated the extreme importance of having that proposition pass.

Assemblyman Haynes' main topic was the California Border Police. He indicated that the primary problem with illegal immigration is not the laws on the books, but the lack of enforcement of existing laws. He talked in depth about how illegal immigrants only have to get past the border patrol to stay in this country indefinitely. There is currently no beyond-the-border enforcement. The California Border Police initiative, once on the ballot and approved, will provide a dedicated effort towards the enforcement of our immigration laws.

He briefly discussed the Minutemen. They were extremely effective, essentially slowing illegal immigration to a trickle. Eighty percent of the Minutemen are over the age of 65, which caused Assemblyman Haynes to quip "If grandmas and grandpas with binoculars and lawn chairs can stop the flow of illegal immigrants across the border, what could 2000 border police dedicated to that effort do? The website for further information is www.calborderpolice.com. He pointed out that it costs the state of California $10 billion for medical care, education and prisons for illegal immigration. Imperial County spends between $2-4 million per year just picking up the dead bodies of immigrants crossing the border who did not make it.

For those who accuse the Minutemen and others who oppose illegal immigration as "racists", he asked the question "Is it not racist to allow people to have a life of fear, abuse and exploitation?" Illegal immigrants live in fear of being caught. They are abused because people realize that they will never complain because they fear they will be deported, they are exploited by businesses because they are fearful of being exposed.
