Tom Del Beccaro

Tom Del Beccaro discussed the importance of the 2008 election. Said it was the most important since 1932. |
As 100 Conservative Forum members and guests looked on, Tom Del Beccaro told the crowd that this was the most important election in the United States since 1932. Tom told us that the founding fathers did not particularly want the government to be very effective. Their roots were based on being controlled by King George, and we were subjected to taxation without representation. Our recourse back then was the Boston Tea Party and revolution.
Between 1936 and 1939, President Franklin Roosevelt, with a Democrat Congress, converted much that was unconstitutional in 1934 to being constitutional. Tom pointed out that we have the same set of circumstances today with a strong majority in both houses of Congress likely in the hands of the Democrats.
Tom summarized two areas that clearly identify Barack Obama:
1. He doesn't own a single share of stock.
2. A recent quote of Obama's regarding the Bush tax cuts, referring to those who earn over $100,000, "They didn't ask for them (the tax cuts); and they didn't need them." The entire emphasis is as if it is up to the government to determine who needs a tax cut. Tom then asked the audience, "Who doesn't need any part of their money?" No one raised their hand.
Tom quoted Ronald Reagan, "Government is not the solution; it is the problem." This 2008 presidential election is about redistribution compared to wealth creation. The government should not decide the winners and the losers. Higher taxes take away our freedoms. Tom shared with the group his three pillars of "The New Conservative Paradigm:" (1) Pro-growth government reform, (2) Belief in America and her defense, (3) Respect for America's traditions and values.
He indicated that the long-term answer is through education. He endorsed vouchers and charter schools. The battleground will be the American education system.
