Don Irvine
Accuracy in Media
 |
Guest Speaker Don Irvine |
Our Santa Clara County Townhall/Conservative Forum of Silicon Valley had another outstanding meeting on Tuesday August 2nd. Don Irvine joined us from Washington, D.C. to discuss accuracy in media. In addition to being an excellent topic, that happens to be the name of his organization - Accuracy In Media (AIM).
Don shared with us some excellent stories of how his father started AIM back in 1969. Don grew up with it, and actually became involved as a teenager in 1974. He is now the Chairman of the Board. They call the mainstream media to task on a regular basis based on factual errors printed in the New York Times, the Washington Post, the Los Angeles Times as well as news reporting outlets like CBS, ABC, NBC and CNN. They have also challenged Time and Newsweek magazines. Don gave us an outstanding report of the progress being made in the media despite the fact that the mainstream media remains consistently biased to the left.
He also gave us much hope with the fact that the overall media is becoming much more conservative based on cable news shows, the internet, bloggers, and independent activist citizens like us. Don took questions and answers until 9:00 P.M., and no one left our meeting. We usually try to finish by 8:30 P.M., but Don was just warming up at about 8:30.
I strongly encourage you to check the website at www.aim.org. You may also register for free AIM membership at www.aim.org/membership.php. If you are so inclined, it is a great place to make a political contribution.
